So an interesting trailer was just released. A film adaptation of Fantasy Island is on it’s way. If you don’t know what Fantasy Island is, it’s a television show from the 1970’s to the 1980’s that starred Ricardo Montalban as Mr. Roarke. Mr. Roarke owned an island that guests would come to with their fantasies and for a price Mr. Roarke would give the guests what they wanted. Usually there would be a lesson after the episode about what happened,
When it was announced that a film version was set for release for 2020, I told myself well that’s it, Hollywood is really desperate for ideas if they are making a Fantasy Island movie. Then I found out it was from Blumhouse Productions, the studio that has been producing a huge line of mainstream horror films. So it spiked my interest a bit.
The trailer is here so let’s take a look at it:
Interesting to say they least. The concept is there by taking the source material and making a darker version of it. The only gripes I have are that it looks PG-13 and cliched. While I have nothing against PG-13 horror but, I like my horror movies like I like my steak, and that’s different. I wish main stream horror would push boundaries and not looking for a quick cash grab. It might be worth the viewing on streaming though.
If your interested Fantasy Island is set for a Valentines Day release in 2020.
