Fun Fact: A Netflix original movie.
Netflix has been releasing their own line of films as of late and to be honest this is only the second one I’ve seen from them. I stumbled on You Get Me due to it being under the new release tab.
You Get Me suffers from many flaws and is a poorly written film. The plot is predictable and you know what is going to happen with no suspense. These obsession films are easy to make and cheap to. Just make the lead characters teenagers to change it up. Don’t want to pay actors to play the parents? Just write them as non-existent in the characters’ lives.
Speaking of characters’, the lead character Tyler was forgettable. Any sane person would call the police or ask for help if they were in that situation. Well the morale of this film is I must do something because I got into this mess. You also don’t really get any time to get invested in the characters as they’re just there. When I saw Rhys Wakefield in the beginning I got a little excited on how over the top he was going to take his character. His character was gone in a blink of an eye.
While the dialogue is awful, the acting isn’t that bad. These could be good actors but, they have nothing to work with. During parts of the film you can tell it was awkward for some of the actors to deliver certain lines and hard to get the right emotions from them. I wouldn’t put much blame on the acting because they’re trying to carry a bad script.
Overall You Get Me is a film full of clichés. It has a terrible script and un-interesting characters. Throw in a predictable plot you have a movie that didn’t really have to be made but, was only made because it’s easy and cheap to do.
