Cast: Hulk Hogan, Various Journalists
MPAA Rating: N/A
Fun Fact: A Netflix produced movie.
I was flipping through my Netflix account and stumbled upon this film. I wasn’t planning to do another documentary review until later but, this just intrigued me so to speak. The main thing that drove me to watch it was due to the fact Hulk Hogan is a subject of the film and I remember when the Gawker lawsuit happened.
The gamble paid off and I enjoyed this film greatly. Very informative and you can tell the research is there. The filmmakers talk to people that worked for Gawker and other journalists that have been effected from recent events. It just doesn’t talk about the Hulk Hogan and Gawker lawsuit but it also goes into detail with people that have big money trying to silence the media in any way possible. It focuses on Peter Thiel and his quest to get rid of Gawker because of a story that ran on him years ago from a writer on that website. It also briefly talks about President Trump and his response to media and journalism. Now I’m not going to go political because this is a film review and lets just talk about the movie.
One thing that would’ve been neat to see is if they talked about Hollywood studios trying to silence some film critics work. Doug Walker Aka Nostalgia Critic has videos taken down all the time. It feels like Hollywood doesn’t want people saying anything bad even with awful movies that are released. I know that the bigger picture was about bigger topics but, it would’ve been interesting to see something like that.
It was inspiring to see the journalist’s stories. Journalists are some of the bravest people out there when it comes to their line of work. It was an inspiring message to see these people talk about their work. If you feel people need to know about something then go for it and not leave people in the dark on what is happening.
Overall if you like informative documentaries then you will enjoy this one. You get a lot of info from people that have been effected from other people trying to silence media and journalism. You will see some inspiring stories from everyday people that do what they need to do and get more info on why people want to silence the media.
